Las Vegas Centennial Float details
History in the Parade
The 2005 Tournament of Roses Parade marks the first time the City of Las Vegas has entered a float. Las Vegas is proud to share in the rich tradition of the Tournament of Roses Parade in commemoration of the city’s 2005 Centennial, a year-long celebration.
2005 Parade Theme
The theme of this year’s Tournament of Roses Parade is family. Las Vegas has been such a phenomenally successful entertainment destination due to the energy, dedication and vision of its tourism employees. Las Vegas Float Concept
Las Vegas is proud to celebrate the beginning of its Centennial festivities with its first ever Rose Parade float. The unique flavor of the city is recreated in color, texture and sound as famous icons Vegas Vic and Vegas Vickie (a.k.a. Sassy Sally) take center stage and welcome visitors worldwide to be part of this historical party.
Bringing to life the true sprit of Vegas to the parade, twelve Las Vegas showgirls costumed in classic attire will ride the float for the length of the 5.5 mile parade route. The Las Vegas showgirl is a universally recognized image of the destination’s excitement, opulence and glamour.
Organic and Mechanical Elements
The florescent colors of the famous Las Vegas Strip are boldly featured in the float’s floral designs. Pulsating magenta, vibrant orange, shocking yellow and sizzling purple carnations create the colorful patterns flanking the float. Sparkling crystals of crisp white coconut flakes from the Philippians augmented with shinny lunaria accentuate the striking floral gardens of 50,000 Charlotte red and hot pink Neon roses.
The float also includes over 30,000 hot pink Princess Roses, over 12,000 hot orange Mercedes Roses, over 2,000 Dendrobium Orchids from Thailand 300 Birds of Paradise, 800 Lilies and 800 Cattleya Orchids.
Vegas Vic waves hello and Vegas Vickie kicks her leg. The iconic pair has been florally reproduced in an array of materials and colors including red ilex berries, blue sinuate statice clippings, yellow strawflower petals and white beans. Skin tones have been created by a mixture of cornmeal, ground walnut shells, paprika and cinnamon spice. The cake of white chrysanthemums is frosted in pink roses and carnations. Additional animated features include a revolving centennial birthday cake, and “champagne” bubbles floating from the gigantic bottle into the equally large glass.
